Washington Governor Jay Inslee Endorses Gael Tarleton for Secretary of State

Seattle, WA—State Rep. Gael Tarleton (D-Seattle) today announced the endorsement of Governor Jay Inslee.

“The right to vote is a sacred duty in our democracy and must be protected.  Gael Tarleton understands this responsibility and has the experience and leadership to guide us through the challenges ahead and ensure that every Washingtonian’s vote is counted,” said Governor Inslee.

“A national security expert, Gael’s three decades of experience defending our democracy means she knows how to defend our elections from all threats, foreign and domestic. Whether it’s Russia’s president, or our own, Gael will take on anyone trying to undermine confidence in our elections. A legislator for the last eight years, Gael has fought to secure our elections and expand voting access—she is a true champion for Washington voters.

Our elections face unprecedented challenges here and from abroad, and we need sound leadership to ensure fair, accurate, and accessible elections. That’s why I’m proud to endorse State Representative Gael Tarleton to be Washington’s next Secretary of State.”

This April, Governor Inslee stood up for Washingtonians’ right to vote after Secretary of State Kim Wyman pushed for canceling the special election that month.

“I am honored to have Governor Inslee’s support as we fight to protect every vote and every voter,” said Rep. Tarleton. “The job of this office has changed, and Washingtonians deserve a Secretary of State who is prepared for current and emerging threats to our elections.”

Governor Inslee joins over 80 current and former elected officials who have endorsed Rep. Gael Tarleton, including Senator Patty Murray; Attorney General Bob Ferguson; U.S. Representatives Suzan DelBene, Denny Heck, Derek Kilmer, and Adam Smith; and Washington House Speaker Laurie Jinkins.
