Tarleton launches investigation into suspicious, harassing robocalls

November 3rd, 2012

For Immediate Release – Nov. 3, 2012

SEATTLE, WA – Democrat Gael Tarleton, state representative candidate for the 36th District, today said her campaign has launched an investigation into suspicious robocalls harassing 36th District voters while identifying themselves as part of her campaign.

“I really don’t know if these calls are coming from misguided supporters or it’s a dirty trick. But after three weeks of big-money attacks against me paid for by a $100,000 independent expenditure by friends of my opponent, it is suspicious. It certainly feels deliberate and intended to harm my campaign,” Tarleton said.

“I want to be very clear, my campaign in no way sanctioned these calls, paid for these calls or condones these calls,” Tarleton said. “We are investigating these calls after receiving several complaints from concerned 36th District voters.”

Several voters contacted the campaign Thursday night and Friday morning to complain they received up to a dozen calls in one hour from callers identifying themselves as part of the Tarleton campaign. Many of the calls occurred after 8 p.m.

Voters reported they received calls made between 7-9:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, from this phone number: 720.862.2044. The owner of the phone number has been traced to an out-of-state company called J2 Solutions.

“We will continue to investigate these calls. Please report any harassing phone calls to our campaign at info@voteforgael.org,” Tarleton said.
