Today, thank a veteran and his or her family members for their service to our nation and our communities. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who have stood up for our rights and our freedoms. All those who serve today, at home and abroad, in places of war or peace, are in our thoughts. Our democracy depends on people who choose or have accepted the call to serve in our military. They make an extraordinary sacrifice on our behalf. Many thanks to our family members, colleagues, and friends who have served our nation with honor and dignity.

Reuven Carlyle and State Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles. We are all indebted to retiring State Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson for her 18 years of truly distinguished service to our district and state. Her support of our campaign has meant so much to me as a candidate and as a citizen of this district. I am grateful for the opportunity to carry her legacy forward.

I would like to congratulate my general election opponent, Noel Frame, for running a passionate campaign. Noel is a proven champion for advancing progressive issues. I look forward to enlisting her leadership to help shape the future of the communities and working families we all serve.

During these last eight months, thousands of voters have shared their stories with me. They are fighting to hold onto their jobs and want their kids to live and work in Seattle. They want affordable access to healthcare and believe that high school graduates should have a shot at admission to Washington’s public higher educational institutions. They want to protect the Puget Sound region to make it safe for people, fish and wildlife. I believe voters heard our message and gave us a decisive victory so together we can achieve these results for ALL of us.

As an elected official who has stood with the LGBT community, I am thrilled that our state took the historic step of advancing the rights of LGBT citizens and families by Approving Referendum 74 – marriage equality. It is one of the most important civil-rights issues of our decade and long overdue.

Elections are won by people not candidates. Our volunteers and campaign team did the hard work to help us win this race. My husband Bob and I want to thank our team, our next-door neighbors, and all of the people who have been so generous with their encouragement, time, and financial support. You helped us win big!

Thank you again to the people of the 36th District who opened their doors and hearts to this campaign. Your commitment to democracy makes all the difference. Democracy begins and ends with ALL of us.

Warmest wishes,

For Immediate Release – Nov. 3, 2012

SEATTLE, WA – Democrat Gael Tarleton, state representative candidate for the 36th District, today said her campaign has launched an investigation into suspicious robocalls harassing 36th District voters while identifying themselves as part of her campaign.

“I really don’t know if these calls are coming from misguided supporters or it’s a dirty trick. But after three weeks of big-money attacks against me paid for by a $100,000 independent expenditure by friends of my opponent, it is suspicious. It certainly feels deliberate and intended to harm my campaign,” Tarleton said.

“I want to be very clear, my campaign in no way sanctioned these calls, paid for these calls or condones these calls,” Tarleton said. “We are investigating these calls after receiving several complaints from concerned 36th District voters.”

Several voters contacted the campaign Thursday night and Friday morning to complain they received up to a dozen calls in one hour from callers identifying themselves as part of the Tarleton campaign. Many of the calls occurred after 8 p.m.

Voters reported they received calls made between 7-9:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, from this phone number: 720.862.2044. The owner of the phone number has been traced to an out-of-state company called J2 Solutions.

“We will continue to investigate these calls. Please report any harassing phone calls to our campaign at info@voteforgael.org,” Tarleton said.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families on the Eastern seaboard. Hurricane Sandy is a grave reminder that addressing climate change must be a priority to protect our families, communities and quality of life for our future.

While the climate change issue sounds daunting, I believe we can fix this. I’m reminded of what my mother always told me, “Gael, do the best you can, where you live, every day.”

I’ve had the privilege to do my best with many of you here in Puget Sound. And it’s making a difference.

Yesterday, we received good news on a regional air emissions report: we are breathing cleaner air! Clean-trade initiatives that you’ve helped me launch as your port commissioner are producing dramatic results. There are 500,000 Puget Sound residents who suffer from lung diseases, and now they can breathe more freely. This report by the Puget Sound Maritime Air Forum included partners like the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and American Lung Association.

I’m thrilled that the clean trucks program at the port has reduced dirty diesel emissions by 53 percent! The cruise and container ships have reduced carbon emissions by 34 percent by using much cleaner fuels at berth! Special interest groups have been attacking me relentlessly for years, predicting that our clean-trade efforts would not produce clean air. Well, the facts are in. And these facts say it all. Check out these stories in The Seattle Times by environmental reporter Craig Welch and Steve Shay in the Ballard News Tribune.

Publicola took a look at this new air emissions report and the big money attack ads against me and debunked them as: “Win one for Tarleton.”

Election Day is just days away! These clean-air results show we can build a clean-energy economy for Washington. I need your help to get to the State legislature so we can fight for clean air solutions for everyone.

Please contribute $250, $100, or whatever you are able today.

- VOLUNTEERS! Our volunteers have helped us reach more than 17,500 homes in the district! Please sign up for our Election Weekend Doorbelling Blitz!
- ELECTION NIGHT! A campaign takes every ounce of energy, courage, and tenacity from teams of people. Please come join the Tarleton Team on Election Night at Hotel Andra, 2000 Fourth Ave. We’d like to thank everyone for your support, encouragement, and winning spirit!

We’ve come this far. Let’s go win this!

Warmest wishes,

Gael

Candidate for State Representative, 36th District

I have proven experience and results to lead the 36th District. My opponent does not.

Two recent media stories in The Seattle Times and Ballard News Tribune clearly mark the contrast in this campaign.

In addition, I would like to thank the Northwest Asian Weekly for their SOLE endorsement!

I’m fighting against big money attack ads – but I can do it with your help. We need to raise $2,700 today and $2,700 tomorrow! You can help with $200, $100, or whatever makes sense for you by contributing here.

I know and understand the issues facing taxpayers in the 36th District, my home for 18 years. I have a track record of results and 30 years of experience that proves I can deliver results for ALL of us, not just a handful of special interests. I am the only candidate in this race who has a record of generating more than 7,000 jobs and education money in this tough economy as your elected official and an employee of the University of Washington.

I am a progressive Democrat – but nobody owns me. I have stood up to special interest groups to serve the taxpayers I have represented for more than four years.

Our campaign has been experiencing a lot of momentum lately. Retiring State Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson, who gave me her sole endorsement before the primary, sent this letter to supporters earlier this week. Rep. Dickerson knows we need a solid champion for our progressive values in Olympia, a champion who can deliver for ALL of us.

This week, our campaign earned our 11th labor endorsement, with the endorsement of the United Transportation Union. Also, a big thank you to International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 19 for sending out a team to doorbell last weekend! All of the help we have received from our volunteers has been overwhelming, and the voters’ positive responses have been humbling. If you would like to canvass during the last two weekends of this campaign, sign up for a shift here.

With just 12 days to go until the election, I am poised to fight through the finish. Let’s go win this!

Warmest wishes,

Gael Tarleton
36th District Candidate, Democrat, Position # 2

After serving the 36th Legislative District for 18 years, I will be retiring as your State Representative at the end of my term. It has been a privilege and honor to serve you.

While I am proud of all of the important work we have accomplished together, I know there is still so much more work to do. That is why, months ago and before the primary, I formally endorsed Democrat Gael Tarleton as the best candidate to carry our legacy forward.

I believe the 36th District deserves the strongest, most experienced candidate with proven results to represent the district I so dearly love. Gael has lived in the 36th District for as long as I have served it in the Legislature. She knows the District, passionately shares its values and brings the greatest amount of experience and proven results to serve ALL of us as your next State Representative.

Gael has garnered the broadest spectrum of support from labor, business leaders, elected officials, education advocates, environmental leaders and more because she has been tested as a Commissioner, serving King County taxpayers for more than four years. She has also earned the highest ratings from independent organizations such as the Municipal League of King County, SEAMEC for advancing LGBT rights, CASE, the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington and more. She has earned more than 170 endorsements over her opponent because people trust her years of public service.

Both candidates in this race share progressive values on the issues we all care about. But only one candidate in this race has the proven experience to tackle the severe budget deficit that will drastically affect our quality of life in the years to come. Only one candidate brings the critical experience and skills necessary to bring people together to solve some of our greatest problems around the budget. Gael is that candidate.

The stakes are high. Our economy is still tough. The decision for voters is simple. Gael has spent 30 years of her working life to build coalitions across continents, cultures, and party lines to bring people together to solve tough problems. She has delivered real results that improve the quality of life for our families, children, workers, businesses, immigrants, women, LGBT community and environmentalists who cherish Washington’s breathtaking landscape.

When we elect the next lawmaker to represent the 36th District, we must vote for the person most qualified to do the job. And that person is Gael Tarleton.

When my ballot arrives, I am voting for Gael. I hope you will join me.

All my best,

Mary Lou Dickerson
36th District State Representative, Democrat
