I
I am honored that King County's voters trust me to deliver port
reform! Upon certification of the election, over 196,000 or 54.38%
of the voters voted for change.
My campaign could not have achieved this success without you. Your words of encouragement, your
doorbelling, your phone calls and your financial support allowed us to reach
out to the nearly 1 million voters in King County with my port reform message.
The
election results speak for themselves: I look forward to helping change the way
the Port of Seattle does business.
Thank
you all for your support and encouragement over the past 10
months. I am especially grateful to all those who
volunteered on behalf of the Gael for Port campaign. It will be a privilege to serve as your Port
Commissioner.
Warmest regards,
Gael Tarleton

I'm running for the Port of Seattle because I believe it's time to change the way the Seattle Port does business. King County citizens deserve decisive and open leadership from the Port of Seattle. Furthermore, our citizens want their elected officials to focus on the real issues of environmental standards, port security, living wage jobs and of course, accountability.
The Port of Seattle, to date, has failed us on each.
One special characteristic distinguishes the Seattle Port: we manage one of the highest trade volumes on the west coast, but at the same time we're rated as one of the least prepared to handle emergencies or disasters. And if that's not bad enough, we are also rated one of the least efficiently managed.
I am excited to tackle the tough issues the Port faces. There are three areas that I'm particularly concerned about:
- The Port must end its closed door, backroom policies and regain the trust of its citizens.
- The Port must develop a long-term security strategy to cope with disasters so that we keep our citizens safe and limit disruption and loss to jobs that depend on trade.
- The Port must fulfill its responsibility to protect both our air and water quality while fostering economic growth and development for our region.
The leadership I bring to each of these areas is not only based on my experience, background and familiarity on the issues, it is also based firmly on my belief that as individuals we can change things for the better. Together, we can change the way the Seattle Port does business.
